INFO: Like its more northerly cousin, Nebbiolo, at its very best, Aglianico is one of the truly great Italian varieties, capable of ageing into a thing of beauty. However, because of the added tannins, acidity and weight of the best of these wines, they often remain unapproachable when young. So, they are now often made differently to be softer, brighter and more easily drunk young. As a consequence, you get some of the amazing dark, dusty, leathery flavours but far less of the astringency.
